defines a survey as an ordered list of objects. Everything contained
within a survey is an object including questions, groups of
questions, jumps, multimedia files, and tables. Think of objects
as building blocks—you can move and reuse them while maintaining
object attributes including conditional logic. This enables
fast, flexible survey design regardless of complexity.
The system tracks the history and whereabouts of your objects
so changes to objects can be updated in surveys across your
system for consistency. With objects, object collections,
and the object repository, you save time, ensure data collection

DatStat Illume is comprised of the Desktop Survey Console and
Web Console which work together to create a centralized online
survey system. The Microsoft® Windows-based Survey Console
offers more advanced capabilities and convenience while the
Web Console offers real-time data access and complex query capabilities
which speeds time to reporting and decision making.
With web-based only survey products, customers risk losing
survey design work when the application times out and the
architecture by nature doesn’t offer as much feature
functionality.

object creation through a familiar Microsoft® Windows-based
interface without the need for programming knowledge. With the
survey editor, you can easily control customization, drag-and-drop
repository items like questions, create multiple question types,
define logic and calculated variables, and create object and

Do
I need to know any programming skills to create surveys in DatStat
Illume?
No. DatStat Illume’s survey editor offers step-by-step
object creation through standard user interface conventions
of Microsoft® Windows applications without the need for
programming knowledge.
Should your organization desire, Illume also allows technical
users to perform direct programming at the object level through
the optional programmer’s tab. This enables you to further
customize the look and feel of your survey by adding customer-defined
functionality.

How
is the security of my data assured with DatStat Illume?
DatStat data security meets strict government regulatory compliance.
DatStat Illume delivers SSL (Secure Socket Layers) and our secure
key is provided by VeriSign. As respondents move through the
survey, responses are encrypted for transit between the respondent’s
browser and the DatStat server using SSL and 128-bit encryption.
DatStat servers also support browsers capable of only 40- and
56-bit encryption as well.
Limited DatStat staff have access to your collected data.
The data is stored in secure servers behind a firewall and
access to your collected data is limited to your password-enabled,
role-based users of DatStat Illume.
DatStat maintains a data center that meets the tough standards
of IRBs and HIPAA compliance. DatStat servers are contained
in locked server cabinets in an alarmed building.
Also, survey authentication management helps you implement
additional measures of security around your survey data collection
by limiting access to your pre-defined audience. Authentication
can be accomplished by appending preloaded data in a unique
survey URL, assigning a random access code, or asking the
participant to enter pre-known data.
